Parent & Family Involvement

Getting Students Engaged

The most successful students come from a home where the parents provide structure, support, and guidance. Students who have parents who really care about their education are usually more successful than students who do not.

In addition to parents being involved, research tells us that one contributor to the success and well-being of children is the presence in their lives of other caring adults.  We also welcome the involvement of grandparents and senior citizens.

Ways To be Involved At your Child's School

At Litchfield Public Schools, there are many ways you can get involved with your child's education.  Below are just a few ideas to help you get started:

  • Make appointments as needed to discuss your child's progress or concerns.
  • Attend parent-teacher conferences with specific questions you want to ask.
  • Participate in informal opportunities to talk with and get to know school staff and educators.
  • Attend PTA or parent meetings regularly.

  • Attend school events
  • Volunteer in the classroom
  • Attend meetings on learning expectations, assessment and grading procedures.
  • Assist your child's teacher in the classroom or on field trips if you are able.
  • Voice your support or concerns on any issue that will affect your family.
  • Serve on school advisory councils or committees on curriculum, discipline, and so forth.
